At the heart of your child’s learning is YOU. Families (including caregivers and pets) help shape how children respond to the world. We value families and celebrate diversity. Here are some of the ways families help establish our learning community:
Exclusive Preschool Family Events. We offer free events throughout the year so that parents, siblings, and even grandparents can join in our learning adventures! These free events provide a fun, casual way for families to socialize and bond. Events include nature-gift making, bird banding demonstrations, student art exhibits, nature puppet shows, maple sugar tours/brunch, and campfire sing-alongs. Events vary from year to year, but we try to host these every six weeks or so.
Field Trips. Off-site trips broaden students’ horizons and introduce them to new ideas. Field trips may include a fall pumpkin patch tour, visit to a local farm, art museum, or State Park. We have a minimum of two field trips per year.
Parents at Preschool. We invite caregivers into our classroom three times per year for Trail Buddies, Book Buddies, and Garden Buddies. As you might guess, parents join us for our trail walk, do small group reading with students, or lend a hand in the garden.
Communication. Families are kept in the loop a number of ways. Each Friday, parents receive an email with calendar reminders and updates, plus a link to our blog to see what the students are up to. We post our weekly lesson plan on a bulletin board so that parents can see what the children will be doing throughout the week. We also offer conference dates for parents that would like more feedback on their child’s progress. In addition, we survey families at the end of each school year to get fresh ideas! Families also receive a Parent/Guardian Handbook with policy information at the start of the school year.
